“Bruce Springsteen: The Album Collection Vol. 1 1973-1984”, is a box set comprised the first seven albums recorded and released by Bruce Springsteen for Columbia Records between 1973 and 1984, remastered as a deluxe package. To support the release in the UK, we created a press campaign for client Sony Music.
Our approach to this campaign was to give the press advertising a dramatic feel, befitting of the scale of the release. We began generating headlines – our ethos was that the headline needed to feel like a statement – but as the approval process is naturally quite extensive for an artist of Springsteen’s stature, we ended up settling on something more direct. This approach worked well as the exploded packshot that was to be the central image, lacked definition on the box set title. And for the rest of the copy we went with a stark, sans-serif typeface evocative of advertising of that era, and all a call-to-action in the same style as the graphics on the box set itself.
We produced a light and a dark version, but in the end only the dark one was used, and the campaign ran across publications throughout the UK music press.
