CBS Logo Redraw

As part of continued outreach and brand consideration for 2015, Sony Music UK is engaged in several brand refreshes across their Legacy/catalogue range. Typically many of the older sub-brands and logos exist only in print form, having never been digitised. I was therefore asked to refresh a little-used, CBS logo dating back to the 70s. As no original materials existed for this classic mark, I would re-draw the logo from scratch as a vector, while making slight improvements.
Mapping out the existing logo (which was drawn by hand), I then created guides which allowed me to digitally draw the curves at sharper, more defined angles. I was careful to not do away with some of the slight details of the original – for example the top curve of the ‘B’ is marginally shallower then the curve below. Once approved, the new vectorised font was supplied as a suite for a variety of uses.
