Kissproof Film Poster
- Client: Dominic Johnson Productions
- Skills: Illustration, Poster Design
Kissproof is a short film written and directed by filmmaker Dominic Johnson. Billed as a romantic comedy, the synopsis is “a young woman decides to take a different approach to meeting the man of her dreams”. The short has been entered into several film festivals in 2015. For the key art poster I created the concept, design and digital illustration.
The film itself is a whimsical, lighthearted affair and this coupled with the Preston Sturges reference in the title, originally led to a design that was more evocative of poster art of the 20s & 30s. Though my original art was well received, the director wanted something far more contemporary and stylised, with the poster for 2000’s Almost Famous being a key reference point.
Once the new direction had been established, I created a new sketch which was closer to the director’s vision. I chose a script font for the title typography, it’s playfulness keeping in tone with the film. Once the new layout was approved I proceeded to digitally paint the poster in Photoshop. The result is a unique and engaging image guaranteed to add value within the film festival market.
