The Scarecrow Film Poster Prop
- Client: Birds Eye Film
- Skills: Illustration, Poster Design
“The Beach House” is an independent horror movie by Patrick Russell of Birds Eye Film. The story centres around a screenwriter and her fictional cinematic creation “The Scarecrow”, of which the poster is featured in several scenes. I was approached by the filmmaker to conceptualise and illustrate a fictional one-sheet as described in the script.
With the only the Scarecrow’s mask prop for reference, I took visual cues for the illustration from the script itself – for example the scene of the Scarecrow’s first appearance, emerging out of dark water. For the overall tone I referenced retro and contemporary horror genre poster art, in it’s composition and in giving the image an airbrushed feel. The poster title needed to fit with the overall ethos of the poster, but also needed to be legible on camera for filming.
